eos Sweet Mint Lip Balm

Beloved readers, I am the 1%.

The 1% of people that do not like “tingle” in mint/peppermint-flavored lip balms, that is.

Thus, when I saw my beloved EOS had created such a lip balm I sprinted to my local Target  to buy it. Mint tea is one of my favorites. I adore a hint o’ mint.

You can read my other experiences with this brand here.

My Experience

A mint lip balm that tastes like fresh, sweet mint (not the “spicy” taste of peppermint) makes my day.

T H E   G O O D

  • True-to-life sweet, fresh mint flavor
  • No “tingle” (Personal preference)
  • Silky texture
  • Moisturizes instantly
  • $3
  • 100% Natural and 95% organic ingredients

This truly smells and taste of sweet, fresh, mint–gentle, pleasant, and relaxing with NO TINGLE! (Huzzah!)

This silky balm slinks on with ease and moisturizes deeply, thanks to its great ingredients.

  • Reapplication
  • Space

It’s round shape does take up a bit more purse space than a slim tube–a small price to pay. I also find I reapply these more frequently than beeswax-based lip balms. I can say it’s not a hinderance to enjoying the product.

TL;DR

This silky mint lip balm slinks on with a hint of shine and moisturizes deeply, thanks to its great ingredients. It’s non-tingling sweet, fresh mint flavor is gloriously true-to-life.

Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Organic), Beeswax (Cire D’Abeille) (Organic), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (Organic), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Organic), Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil (Organic), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) (Organic), Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract (Organic), Tocopherol, Limonene (Component of Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Linalool (Component of Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil.

eos Pomegranate Raspberry Lip Balm

Beloved readers, I’ve tried the other lip balms from this brand, and I’m quite pleased with them, thus far. When this flavor came out I bought it without a thought.

I wasn’t disappointed. (Huzzah!)

My Experience

Like the other balms of this brand it glides on silky and smooth, melting right in  while leaving a teeny hint of shine behind.

Read my other experiences with this brand here.

T H E  G O O D

  • Silky texture
  • Moisturizes deeplyNatural, organic ingredients
  • $3
  • Available at local drugstore, Ulta, Walmart, or Target
  • Long-lasting
  • True-to-life scent

I also love it, because of what is NOT in it. This balm is made of 100% natural ingredients, with 95% of those being organic–lovely! That puts me a bit more at ease with something I am slathering on my mouth all day, every day.

The scent of this is lovely: tart, punch pomegranate and tangy raspberry with a hint of sweetness. It’s not a manufactured “generic sweet fruit” scent–a must with something that sits beneath your nose! The scent dissipates fairly quickly, which is another added bonus if one wears a scented lipgloss or lipstick over it.

This lasts for about 6 weeks for me, which is fantastic for the price.

T H E   B A D

  • Shape
  • Reapplication

I noticed I apply this more than beeswax lip balms. The shape does take up a bit more space, but it’s so…well, cute.

TL;DR

Having very full lips, lip balm must be available to me 24/7. This gives me the moisture I want, round the clock, with true pomegranate flavor.

Ingredients: Olea Europea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Organic), Beeswax (Organic), Cocos Nucifera (Cocunut) Oil (Organic), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Organic), Natural Flavor (Organic), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) (Organic), Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract (Organic), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil (Organic), Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (Organic), Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Leaf Extract (Organic), Linalool

eos Cucumber Hand Lotion

Beloved readers, after my experience with eos’ Berry Blossom lotion (read my review), I decided to give this one a try as well. That and I love cucumber-scented products, and cucumber in general–so yummy and refreshing!

You can read my other experiences with this brand, here.

My Experience

It does moisturize as spectacularly as the other version I tried and kept my hands looking lovely through a Mid-Western winter spent walking all over campus and covering news events.

T H E   G O O D

  • Available at your local drugstore, Walmart, Target, and Ulta Beauty
  • $7
  • Space saving package
  • Moisturizes well
  • Long lasting
  • A lil’ dab will do

I tend to get about a month’s worth of applications during the winter, and about 2.5 months during the summer–not bad, given its tiny size!

T H E   B A D

  • Greasy, slightly runny texture
  • The scent (extremely strong; poor cucumber note)

Getting that last bit of lotion out will be a challenge, unfortunately, due to its design. Consequently I was unable to use the last quarter of product, which actually raises it’s price per use–grr. I am also not a fan of flip-tops, but this one is quite durable. (Huzzah!)

As for the scent–people will know when you pop the tab. The scent is “sugar-sweet” meets “generic freshness.”  It is not bad per se, but I did not pick up any hint of “cucumber” from this, which I was looking forward to.

The scent of this lingers in the air for about 10-15 minutes and on your hands for about half an hour. Keep this in mind if you wish to be considerate to those around you. It’s also a bit greasy–smudgy phone screens are likely.

TL;DR

This slightly greasy lotion has a strong scent lacking in cucumber fragrance. What it lacks in fragrance and texture it makes up for in moisture and a space-saving design.

Ingredients: Water (Eau), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Cocoglycerides, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Fragrance (Parfum), Carbomer, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisotiazolinone, DMDM Hydantoin, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, BHT.

eos Berry Blossom Hand Lotion

Beloved readers, I’ve been quite pleased by the lip balms of this line. I’ve used them exclusively as my night-ritual lip balm of choice for the past year. I’m moderately pleased with this line’s shaving creams.

Having had mostly pleasant experiences with this brand, when I saw eos now produces hand lotions, in a wonderfully sleek and convenient container, I had to add them to my “must try list.”

As soon as my previous hand lotion ran out, I happily schlepped to my nearest Target (you can also find this at Walgreens and Ulta stores) and picked this up.

Read my experience with the Cucumber lotion from eos here, and their other products here.

My Experience

For those who love pink or pastels, you will love the packaging of this for obvious reasons –it is a pearlescent baby pink. #TeamPink

This kept my hands lovely and smooth through a Mid-Western winter spent out and about on campus all day and covering news events for work–amazeballs. (I had to write it at least once in my blogging career. Don’t judge.)

This lasted about a month for me, with heavy winter-time use.

T H E   G O O D

  • Moisturizes well
  • Long-lasting (1 month in the winter; 2.5 in the summer)
  • $7
  • Available at your local Walmart, Target, drugstore, or Ulta Beauty

My palms and back of my hands drank this well-packed, slightly pink lotion eagerly. My rough spots were immediately soothed.

T H E   B A D

  • Runny, greasy texture
  • Extremely sweet, generic scent
  • Package design

I greatly appreciate the purse-space-saving design! I absolutely hate I dislike flip-top lids, but this one is actually durable! (Gasp!) Unfortunately, it makes it difficult to get that last bit of lotion out of the container. (I abhor wasting anything, so I am rather picky about this beloved readers.)

The scent is extremely sweet and is your basic sweet-floral/fruity scent. I didn’t smell “berry” nor “blossom”, but it was definitely S-W-E-E-T. I am not in love with such scents and it does linger in the air for about 15 minutes–powerfully. The scent is strong enough where the people to either side of me in the classroom were quite aware someone was putting on hand lotion.

TL;DR

A strong, generic, sweet scent and slightly greasy texture can’t outshine this lotion’s ability to keep skin moisturized and plump for hours.

a-modern-lady-review-eos-tangerine-medicate-lip-balm-2

eos Tangerine Medicated Lip Balm

I have full, pillowy lips that are extremely high-maintenance. I’m not complaining, but they require me to be on a constant, maniacal search for the perfect natural lip balm.

One missed application of lip balm and will look as though I just ate a bowl of microwaved sand. Yes.

(I’ll give you a moment to process that mental image.)

Because I know that I’ll die having eaten about 10,000 pounds of lip balm over the course of my life, I prefer natural lip balm.

My Experience

It works. I discovered this while living in the Midwest and while the winters were milder than usual when I tried this, my poor lips give in to sorrow once the temperature drops below sixty degrees Fahrenheit.

Chapping, tears, splits, and pain awaited my pout every September!

This lip balm’s admittedly odd, mealy texture adequately melted into my lips and coated them, without feeling “gunky.”

Right away the phenol began lessening pain! My lips heal twice as quickly with this–far more quickly than any other medicated balm I’ve ever tried! And without the scent or burning sensation of Peppermint or Eucalyptus essential oils, which are popular in medicated balms (which I detest).

You can read my experiences with other balms from this brand here.

T H E   G O O D

  • True-to-life scent
  • It works
  • $3
  • Available at your local drugstore, Target, Walmart, and Ulta Beauty
  • Lasts about 1.5 months (Winter-time use)

If you’ve followed me long enough, you know I dislike citrus scents and flavors, but I couldn’t pass up a chance to try a new EOS balm as they work so well.

The scent of this is not what I feared it to be: Orange Glow on steroids.  The scent of this balm is actually soothing! It’s delicate, fresh, soft, with hint of peppy, true-to-a-real-freshly-peeled-orange zing! If this could conquer my bias against citrus scents, I’m sure many of you will find it delicious! It’s hardly cloying–but, be warned: it lasts for several hours.

T H E   B A D

I slathered this on, pressed my lips together, and made that infamous face infants make when subjected to a lemon wedge for the first time.

(It’s a highly unattractive expression, I assure you.)

I didn’t enjoy the taste of this balm, not because of the citrus element, surprisingly, but because of the bitterness of the active ingredient (the “medicine,” if you will):  Phenol (at .5%). It’s as bitter as a jilted lover. There’s no way around it. The taste does fade, somewhat quickly, thankfully.

The texture is unfortunate. There. I typed it.

Normally I gush about the texture of eos lip balms. Not this time. The texture is mealy. Yes, mealy, like an overripe pear or apple.

The packaging is adorable, but does take up more space than a slim tube.

TL;DR

This natural lip balm works with a true-to-life, zesty scent. It has a bitter flavor and mealy texture; but, heals my lips twice as fast as other balms.

Ingredient Phenol 0.5%. Inactive Ingredients Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Beeswax (Cire d’abeille), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Flavor, Zinc Oxide, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract, Honey, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Benzyl Benzoate, Citral, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

a-modern-lady-review-eos-shavce-cream-pomegranate-raspberry-review-pic

eos Shave Cream Pomegranate Raspberry Shave Cream

Beloved readers, like the other eos shave creams this is paraben and phthalate free, which I adore. Also like the others, the “Big Ticket” ingredients aloe and shea butter are towards the middle-bottom of the ingredient list. Boff.

Also,  like the others petrolatum, mineral oil, triethanolamine (drying) and other ingredients I don’t care for made it to the list. Ah, well.

My Experience

This product provides a brilliantly close shave.  However, you could just use a cheap conditioner, baby oil, or a natural oil (coconut, avocado, olive, etc.) and get the same results. Either way, you’ll still want to use your usual moisturizer afterwards.

You can read my reviews for the eos lavender variation here and eos vanilla variation here.

T H E   G O O D

  • $3
  • Adorable, sturdy packaging
  • Provides hyper smooth, close shave
  • Leaves skin feeling supple
  • Fresh, zingy, fruit scent

I dislike fruit scents; however, the scent of this captures the “zing” of both fruits without being overly sweet. It does, in fact, smell “fresh.” It has a hint of that commercial “creamy” scent the cosmetic industry has forced upon consumers, but it’s hardly obnoxious.

T H E   B A D

  • Texture (personal preference)
  • Ingredient Quality (personal preference)

I prefer thicker, more traditional shaving “creams,” personally.

The runny texture of this was a bit off putting for me. I also prefer higher quality ingredients–the large amount of mineral oil will keep this from being a repurchase for me–personal preference, that’s all.

TL;DR

A zesty, fresh fruit scent and a close shave are your for $3. A runny texture and an emphasis os mineral oil and petrolatum in the ingredients may be a concern–to each her own.

a-modern-lady-review-eos-evolution-of-smooth-strawberry-lip-balm

eos Strawberry Lip Balm

Beloved readers, I freely admit to you that I bought this strawberry-flavored lip balm simply because I’ve had such a wondrous experience with all of the other balms I’ve tried from this brand. Yep.

That’s it. You can read my other experience with balms from this brand here.

My Experience

Unsurprisingly, this performed like the other balms of this brand–well. This kept my lips smooth and soft with a pleasing scent. Huzzah!

  • Scent (Personal preference)

Personally, I don’t care for fruit scents or flavors in my lip care and/or cosmetic products. EOS lip balms fit squarely at the top of my “Exceptions to My Hatred of Fruit Scents” list. I like strawberries and strawberry flavored things, so unsurprisingly–this received a pass.

The scent of this is not obnoxiously sweet. It’s not as true-to-life as others I’ve tried from this brand, but it’s not the usual, commercial, overly-sweet faux-berry scent that has made me gag since I was a child.

The packaging is adorable, but takes up a bit more space than a slim tube.

TL;DR

This lip balm moisturizes lips deeply with natural and organic ingredients with a pleasantly sweet strawberry fruit scent and flavor. A classic strawberry lip balm.

Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Organic), Beeswax (Apis Mellifera) (Organic), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (Organic), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Organic), Natural Flavor (Limonene & Linalool), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) (Organic), Stevia Extract (Organic), Tocopherol, Helianthus Annus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (Organic), Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit Extract (Organic).

eos Vanilla Bliss Shave Cream

I’ve had such good experiences with the lip balms of this line, I absolutely had to try their shave creams. Annnnd I’m a vanilla fiend, so I was compelled to try this vanilla shave cream for that reason, brand aside.

My Experience

While using this vanilla shave cream your razor will glide over your skin sans irritation, revealing a lovely, close shave and smooth skin. (You’ve been warned.)

It leaves skin feeling supple–but don’t skip your usual moisturizer. I adore all things vanilla, beloved readers, so I was utterly jazzed to have a vanilla scented shave cream. It’s a light, sweet vanilla scent which reminded me of cake frosting. And visually…a vanilla-colored vanilla shave cream is just fun.

Beloved readers, I love that this is paraben and phthalate free. I’m dismayed the “good stuff” like aloe and shea butter are at the END of the ingredient list.

I prefer creamier texture for my shaving aids–this is actually fairly runny, which I found a bit off putting. I also prefer product sans petroleum or mineral (or at least not in such large amounts in the formulation.)

TL;DR

A vanilla-scented shave cream delivering close, smooth legs for $3 at your local drugstore. A runny texture and large amounts of mineral oil may be off putting for some.

Like other balms from this line, I tried this based on my excellent experiences with the brand’s other products.

You can read those experiences here.

My Experience

I adore the bright, tangy-sweet flavor and scent of this balm. If you love lemon or fruit flavors in general you’re in for a treat. This is just a darn good lil’ lemon lip balm.

My lips are always buttery smooth after using these lip balms, it never smears all over my pillow, and never alters or shortens the wear of my lipglosses or lippies.

eos Lavender Jasmine Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream

I adore the balms of this brand and so was giddy to try the shave cream. I have a love/hate relationship with Jasmine fragrance. I’m currently loving it, so into my cart it went.

My Experience

Your razor will glide over your skin without causing irritation, while giving a hot-darn-that-is-close shave. Skin feels smooth and supple after its use, though I still needed my trusty oil-blend after I used it. This product alone does not moisturize well enough to skip my after-bath-moisturizing step.

It made my over all shaving experience more of a time of pampering and less of a chore. This jasmine shave cream is a potential HG.

You can read my experiences with other shave creams from this brand here.

  • $3
  • Available at your local Target, Walmart, Ulta, and drugstore

  • Hyper close, smooth shave

My favorite thing about this, besides the super close shave?

Its soft, calming jasmine scent wafts about the shower and lingers ever-so-softly on skin. This is a sweet jasmine scent, it lacks some of the heady, deep rich nuances of pure Jasmine essential oil–but, it’s lovely nevertheless.

A calming jasmine scent, hyper close, smooths have for $3 at your local drugstore. This jasmine shave cream may become your favorite.
